Poirier vs. Holloway — Full Fight

Dustin Poirier by Decision (unanimous) · Round 5

Fight breakdown

0:01Round 1

Poirier immediately showed why the lightweight move mattered. His left hand and counters hurt Holloway repeatedly, forcing the featherweight champion to survive one of the roughest opening rounds of his career. Holloway fired back and stayed upright, but the power difference defined the round.

6:08Round 2

Holloway began to layer in more body work and combinations in round two, but Poirier still landed the more damaging punches late. The round captured the fight's scoring tension: Holloway was often busier, yet Poirier's hardest shots were changing posture and reactions.

12:12Round 3

The third was Holloway's clearest rally. His pace rose, his combinations got longer and Poirier had to spend more time defending rather than marching forward. Poirier still found moments, including clinch and takedown looks late, but Holloway's activity made the fight competitive again.

17:40Round 4

Round four swung on damage. Holloway kept pressing and attacking the body, but Poirier's knee opened a serious cut on Holloway's forehead and changed the optics of the championship rounds. The cut gave Poirier the most visible late damage in a fight that had already been fought at a brutal pace.

22:40Round 5

Both men reached the fifth exhausted but still trading. Holloway needed sustained space to force another volume round, while Poirier used counters, jab work and late clinch wrestling to deny a clean comeback. The unanimous 49-46 scorecards made Poirier the interim lightweight champion.
