Garry established the range with long kicks, straight punches and lateral movement while Muhammad tried to step into boxing distance. Muhammad landed enough clean shots to keep the exchanges honest, but Garry's length made the entries difficult and his lead-leg attacks accumulated. The round was competitive, with Garry's cleaner long-range work offsetting Muhammad's forward pressure.

Muhammad pressed more deliberately in the second and found a clean right hand as he worked to turn the fight into a closer contest. Garry answered with calf kicks and straight shots, then repeatedly defended the takedown attempts along the fence. Muhammad's pressure made the round closer, but Garry's distance management and defensive wrestling kept him ahead.
